Citizens Commission on Human Rights Protests Psychiatric Drugging of Children

Toronto, 20 May 2006: Members of the American Psychiatric Association was greeted by 350 protestors Saturday at the Toronto Convention Centre as the APA started its annual convention with hundreds of psychiatrists from around the world in attendance. Toronto has had the dubious honour of hosting the convention, usually staged in a major U.S. city, twice in the last decade.

Organized by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, established by the Church of Scientology in 1969 to expose the psychiatric human rights abuses and fraud, the protest mocked the psychiatric industry's continued drugging of children with dangerous and addictive mind-altering chemicals in the supposed effort to control child behaviour and improve education. Numerous psychiatric studies on the effects of such medication have been found to be fraudulent and Health Canada within the last two years issued warnings on the dangers of these psychiatric drugs which can lead to suicide and other damaging health problems.

The protestors, wearing black t-shirts with the slogan "Stop Psychiatric Drugging of School Children," chanted throughout the afternoon across from the Convention Centre in Simcoe Park. Large white trucks cruised up and down Front St., sporting signs "Hide Your Children! The psychiatrists are here" to warn Toronto residents that the convention was in town.
